I thought i would join, since I have used this site in the past to read of experiences and info on various breeds.
I am 37, originally from Louisiana and moved to Kansas, have had chickens since i was 6+-, including common and rare breeds.
Right now i am changing my poultry strategy.
So I sold off most of the breeds that I have had and am ordering/getting new breeds.
I hope to one day create a few new breeds suitable for midwest climate, and dual purpose.
Currently planning to keep/gather, te following:
Breeds that take heat and cold, small comb, some dual purpose, some game and free range.
My breed plans:
Chantecler,
Buckeye,
Kraienkoppe,
Icelandic.
Americana
Whiting True Blue.
Guineas,
I also hope to eventually find some reasonably priced good big fierce game for free range, with small combs, that can take our climate and survive hawks, like Liege Fighter, Aseel, cross, etc....
I Also raise lots of fruit trees many disease resistant or late bloom cultivars of apple, pear, apricot, jujube, and hybrid persimmons, figs, hardy citrus, grapes, nuts, and have cattle and kunekune pigs, and plan to get a hardy goat breed like Kiko or Spanish for weed control.
