This is a way to tell if it is male or female before hatch and is 100%

Ok...
I did this 2 years ago. I gave a broody hen 5 eggs that I dowsed. The questions I asked were:
Is this egg fertile?
Does this egg contain a female embryo?

If the answer was No to my second question, I put in my refrigerator.

Out of 5 eggs that hatched, only one chick turned out to be a cockerel. That makes my hatch rate 80% pullets, 20% cockerels. Not perfect, but way better than 50/50 or 60/40.

It was just a fun little experiment for me.

My mother-in-law did this on all her children and it was right. Her mother had done it and was right on all 13 children. Mother-in-law thought all 4 daughter-in-laws had to do it too. Well it was right with my two. Never heard about doing it to eggs till today, think I will try it when i get to hatch my own.

Great! Perhaps you should start a new thread...call it Hatch Experiment or something like that. Tell us what your before and after results are. Maybe post pics of the hatched chicks and again when you are able to sex them.

ok, I have been reading this thread....and here is what I learned from an old chicken farmer. He told me....if hens set early in the spring, there will be a igher count of hens hatched..the later in the year, more roos. Now, I am new to this chicken thing....only being in my second year....so, I tried the needle thing....I marked them accordingly..and will use doggy nail polich on thier toes when they hatch....hope this works...MOST of mine tested for hens!

Seems all it boils down to is this:
100% accurate if if works,
50/50 if it didn't because that was the chance it was going to be one or the other anyway.

LOL! I LOVE Old Wives Tales... as long as you take them with a grain of salt, of course! While pg with both of my kids I did this one, the chinese chart, the how-hairy-are-your-legs test

...

I have to say this particular one WAS right about my children, but I didn't use that to pick out clothing color or anything! It's more of just a Fun thing, kwim? I'm really surprised that this is used to test eggs! As for farms using this method to discard of eggs... well, what if they only kept a few males, and ultimately those eggs didn't make it?

What would be the 'pseudo-science' reason for this test working in the first place?

Hmm... Well, I'm pretty good at bs... How about "Female chicks disrupt the flow of air to magnetic north, hence the needle <with it's innate wish to point toward north> will spin in a circle. Male chicks, on the other hand, do not, and allow the needle to swing in the direction it really chooses to." Maybe that would explain while I always stick myself... maybe I should be sitting with my back in a different direction!
