Hello, one and all.
Its been a while since I have posted. Finally we have move to our farm in Georgia and now acquiring farm animals starting out with Ducks.
Chickens ordered to be delivered in April, Lambs to arrive in May more to come....

Now on to my posted topic!
Our older females attack one of our youngest females. My husband broke up the fight but not before the damage that was done.
There were no feathers or down left on the area, raw meat, not even skin. We put triple antibiotic ointment all over the raw area.
Any other thing we could be doing for her? By the way her name is "Starflight". She is in our house with us laying in a
Tupperware container on hay which I put a towel over it, think that is more sterile then hay. Starflight is resting.

Wow that’s sad. Poor girl. Keep it clean, trim the feather away from the wound so none will lay on the wound, @casportpony says pluck around the wound the direction the feathers are growing out. You can put triple antibiotic on or Spray Veterycin for wounds an infections. Ducks are amazing how well they heal so I have no doubt she’ll recover. You don’t say where you are so if you have flies keep her inside until healed. Before you are ready to put her back with the flock your going to have to reintroduce her very slowly. Also some poultry nutridrench would be good to add to her water while she recoups. Do you have other young besides her? Boy those girls were out for blood. Mine will have spats but never have they gone that far. Did you introduce through fencing for a while to get the older girls use to the new one/s? Please let us know how she is doing

We are in Georgia, the wound has nothing on it but her flight feathers, the long ones that she fly' s with are protecting the wound doesn't seem to be really touching the wound. Do yo feel that I have to cut them? I brought her out to this morning and placed her on the ground and she wondered around and back to the kennel area where I keep them at night. The other 6 ducks were still kenneled and Starflight just walked around, being very cautions. I first let out the least aggressive ducks, their were fine then her brother that was so happy to see her. Then I let out our beautiful sweet dominate Drake, Mandrake. He does not do much with Starflight because she is still a bit tow young. Then I let the 2 ducks out they are aggressive when they all get together. They were also fine because Starflight kept her distance. I watched her for about 45 minutes but when I decided to go back to the house I put her in one of the kennels by herself with water and food. Please let me know about Starflight's wings. thank you again, Nancy

As long as the wound is healing with out feathers sticking to it leave them alone trimming flight feathers isn’t going to hurt her other than she’ll have to molt before they grow out again but if they are in the way of the wound healing then I’d trim. I trim flight feathers every year after molt to keep my Muscovys home and safe so if you decide to trim to help with healing let me know I’ll get the link that shows how to trim.

We have had our duck for almost a year and have had no problem with them staying close by. We have 13 acres, 4 cleared and the rest woods. They fly around the area that's cleared, they haven't flawn into the woods yet. If they start wondering away we will consider that. Thank you

I wasn't recommending you clip wings just to do it. I was referring to the fact her wing feathers could hinder her injury from healing right if the feathers are laying on it then you might want to clip. Sorry for the confusion.
