I am pretty sure that the remaining egg is not going to hatch. So I need to start over again. I have learned a lot in the last few weeks. Mostly in the last week. So maybe my percentages will be better next time.
Sadly, due to neighborhood pressure, I had to get rid of Ronnie, Shilo's father, last night. It was the first time I had processed a chicken in more than twenty five years. I think I did alright, but it was definately not fun. I kept flashing back to him when he was a few days old following me around like a puppy and climbing up to sleep on my lap. I feel so bad for the hen too. I know that she's going to be lonely.
Shilo is doing great on this her seventh day. I am hoping that now that the hen is alone that there will be a chance that she will accept the company of the chick when it's time to remove her from the brooder. Otherwise I guess I'll have to just keep them separate until it's grown.
I Just learned this morning from reading other threads that it's possible to incubate an egg even if it has cooled down. I was under the impression that I had to start with warm eggs. Go figure.
