This is cute - but is it too small?

I think $350.00 $400.00 is alot considering what you are getting.
My coop is 8 by 10 by 6 and my run is 18 by 25. It cost us around $170.00 for the material for one that big.

If I were you I would look into something local.

I did check locally.
The rabbit hutches are $150 at TSC (before tax, no roost, no egg door, etc.) so about the same as the nicer one on sale shipped.

I checked on Craiglist and found somebody that makes chicken coops but his are $500 (again before tax) and they are tiny as well.

I totally know we could save a lot of money if we built it ourselves but my husband will be busy with building me a new tack room (got to have priorities!

) so I want the chicken coop ready made if possible.

If i were you I would want to start out with a bigger coop so when you do decide that you want more chickens(which you will) you will just have to order the other chicks and not worry with another coop:)

That's what I built at first and it works fine for 3-4, especially if they can free-range somewhat. 4 by 12 would be great, and I would make the roosting area 4 by 4. It's not that hard to build and I am a far cry from a carpenter, so give it a shot! IMO the first coops you had looked too small.

Check out my coops at Greenchickencoop.com (website under construction). My coop is built here in the USA, using ecologically "green" lumber and built by people who keep chickens in them themselves. Shipping to Texas would be just over $100.

Those look nice and I bet they do a great job in northern climates with them being low to the ground and conserving body heat!
For us though I am looking for more of an open/tall set up because heat accumulation is more of a problem for us than cold.
