This is Daisy, my Barred Rock. Can anyone tell if she's truly a female? Thanks!

Here is a good BYC article on sexing chickens, yours are really still to young to know for sure, but since you can see them in person, you might be able to get an idea sooner. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/is-my-chicken-a-pullet-hen-or-a-cockerel-cock The What Breed Or Gender Is This forum is a good place to post your pictures for people to see to help you with figuring out what yours are (you can post pictures in that forum the same way you are posting in the New Members forum) https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this

Four weeks is usually too early to tell. But based on feathering ALONE, I'd say it's a female - as long as it's a purebred barred rock. Male barred rocks usually look lighter than that at this point.

But to be certain, I'd wait until she was at least 8 weeks old to say one way or the other.

Thank you SO much cause I don't know WHAT I'll do if either of the two are roosters!! I'm just too attached to just give them away and not know their fate!! I just can't do that!!?? So it'll be a HUGE problem for me!! Please DO keep your fingers crossed and thank you again. By the way, this one, Daisy is starting to get a pinkish, red comb but it's very small.. I don't know if that means anything??

I think she is a she. Usually roosters start getting a big ol' comb at about 2 weeks. Some even start crowing at 3 weeks. Your baby's comb is still very yellow, even if it has a small bit of red. It doesn't matter how big she is, or how tall she stands. I am sticking to my gut here and go out on a limb and say she is a she!

Thank you SO much!! I really appreciate your writing me back!! This meant alot to me considering how worried I am about this!! You've really given me a ray of hope and I'm gonna just try to be positive that you are right!! Thanks again!!
