Hello, new to chicken raising and probably should've done more research, but these chickens kind of got dropped in my lap. I noticed my rooster getting black spots on his comb?! Hopefully nothing serious. ..

Black marks are just little scabs of maybe another pecking him or him scratching. They will go away. The only other thing I can think of is frost bite.... But wrong season

HI! This handsome rooster might have a biting bug problem. Spend some time in the coop and if you are bitten by mosquitoes and so forth you can bet your rooster is too. You can wait and see if this resolves on its own or you can take action. I've used a product called Swat (a repellent lotion used on horses) on the comb with good results. You also need to inspect your birds for mites. If I have a chicken with mites I'll bathe (soak for five minutes) them in cat flea shampoo, rinse well, and allow them to dry naturally. If you have a real bad mite/insect problem remove the birds from the area and spray the area thoroughly with either diluted Dawn solution (a natural method) Or you can use a insecticide of your choice for the area you live in. Allow the area to completely dry before allowing your birds back in. You will have to retreat the area several times before seeing an improvement.
