The previous post sounded a bit heartless, but I live in a big city with a lot of crime. My husband used to go offshore for weeks at a time and so I would rather be proactive. 'Course I do live in Texas.

I understand everybody might not feel that way.

There is a large dog training community in Minnesota. Try to locate an obedience dog training club in the nearby (or not so nearby) larger cities. They may know of a tracking club. Some of these folks might be willing to practice their dogs on a peeping tom's trail.

I wouldn't recommend this.

I learned a lot about dog training from a 30+ year police dog trainer. He trains bite work as well as tracking. He said he almost got killed taking an inexperienced dog out tracking a suspect, and he had the SWAT team backing him up!!! I would NOT recommend taking a practice run against a real live mentally-unstable criminal, especially without a police escort/backup!!!
Stick to practicing on raccoons or deer or your friends, not potentially-dangerous peeping toms!

possumqueen, I love, love, LOVE that idea, especially in warmer weather!! I wouldnt have to actually even be out there for him to be zapped!!!! Another to put on my list.

Brindlebtch, I am going to look for mace or wasp spray, I dont know anything about bear spray? I dont think you sounded heartless but then I have lived in a big city before and my fiance is from Chicago. How ironic that I would run into that kind of thing HERE and never have in either of those places.

Life can be strange,sigh.
country freedom, I like that idea too, though I would have no idea HOW to do it. I am sure my fiance could figure it out though, there isnt much he cant tinker with and get going.
Tala, I think I will probably NOT track him with a dog. I have worked on a little tracking with Max (just was curious if he could learn), but even with him, well, I just dont know.
I talked with my mother and youngest son today. My mom had most of the same questions as everyone here. We were talking about how when I was growing up out there, it was rare for us even to have to lock the doors. I know its wishful thinking but I long for those days.
My son just thinks he needs to be beaten within an inch of his life and locked up.

We tracked the people that burglarized our house and then called the cops. Caught them with our stuff and got both our dogs back. Obviously we were lucky in more way than one.

Be persistent with the law enforcement officers. As I would have guessed (like you stated) there is no local law enforcement of such a small town. You will HAVE to press the issue with the officers. Be pro active and ask them what they have done. What have they found about this individual? Where does he live, etc.....If you are too shy to talk to them everyother day or so, definitely have your son go and talk with them again and ask of their progress in getting information about this individual. DO NOT ASSUME they are working on it.......if you feel like the local clerk and postmistress has been the most helpful, they probably have and the law enoforcement has not yet done what they could to reassure you of the situation and circumstances of this guy. It probably would be good to see if they have a female officer and speak to her - it would help you relate your feelings. One thing I have learned is to trust my wifes intuition......she can definitely sense things about people I can not.

i will add to my advice of carrying mace again as i think its your best option.
I've carried mace for three years every since my sister was stalked and my father bought both of us mace... i think you should consider mace more than anything else, ive included a link to the exact product i carry, its small compact, its on a keychain (ours are with our keys) fits in your pocket and contains 10, 1 second bursts of power, that reach 8-10 feet. MOST Importantly may i add, this product contains a UV dye that invisibly marks who or what was hit with the spray i dont think bear spray has that, but im not sure.. also this product is only $20 dollars.
i've included a state list of laws on the use of mace so you can see, yes it is legal to buy this product. excerpt:
"MINNESOTA: Legal.

The use of a self-defense spray is permitted "**in the exercise of reasonable force and defense of the person or the person's property only if it is propelled from an aerosol container, labeled with or accompanied by clearly written instructions as to its use, and dated to indicate its anticipated useful life.

"Section 624.731 also contains other provisions relating to use and possession including giving municipalities the power, if they so elect, to license the retail sellers of self-defense sprays."

also heres mace's website and the product i was talking about:
