this is just HORRIBLE (craigslist post)

I hate thinking of some snake eating a baby chick too. I know that they have to eat, but... Most pet stores sell "frozen" for snakes, which makes the snake much less aggressive, IMO would be that much safer to have! About a year ago on our craigslist down here in S. Fl. a woman put a post up about wanting any unwanted pets, and she stated: puppies, kittens, rabbits, mice, rats, hamsters, etc. for her HUGE and I mean huge snake. She claimed that it will help her with the cost of feeding her "baby". Can you believe the gaul of this woman?! She had the darn thing hung around her neck, like it was a toy! It had to of been at LEAST 15 feet long! That just made me sick. Anyway, it was flagged REAL fast, thank god!

Is it illegal to feed one pet to another pet, I wonder? Because if not, then I don't think the post should've been taken down. A lot of people simply euthanize their pets when they don't want them anymore, which seems worse to me than feeding it to a snake.

Yeah, I was wondering why it was flagged too. I don't think it was against the rules, but I could be wrong. If I'm not mistaken, if a post gets a lot of flags they just take it down (I know they don't review all the posts they take down for flagging), so that must have been it. She can just post her ad on LSN, they don't take down posts there that I've seen.

I have no problem with the circle of life..But at least kill the chick quickly and humanely first before feeding it to the snake. Just my opinion. Why subject an animal to terror before it has to die?

Actually someone that cares about the wellbeing of their snake will kill their food before feeding it. Rats and mice can deliver a nasty bite to the snake causing infection and sometimes even death. Of course a chick couldn't harm a snake in that way, but if it's your habit to feed dead and that's what the snake is used to, you would naturally kill their prey first. Some captive bred snakes are actually afraid of their food if it's still alive.

Probably not, but

a) the bugs don't get much time to feel anything, I'd guess, and
b) if chickens were big enough they'd eat us, so I'm not too concerned about chicken morality

LOL Mine eat other birds. I've seen them kill hummingbirds and sparrows, and fight over who gets which part. The same goes for mice. What goes around comes around

I'd far rather be killed by a snake than a chicken, they're not the most efficient!
