This is one wierd mixed up hen.

This hen has one spur on one leg and nothing on the other. She crows on the roost in the mornings !!! I think she thinks she's a rooster. However she lays me a nice x-large egg every day.


I a new member here. Looking forward to posting lots of other pics. I have (9) barred rocks, (8) RIRS, (3) silver laced wyndottes, and (3) Americaunas.

I have an OEGB hen that has spurs, but she has spurs on both legs. Some breeds just get them.

Do you have a rooster? If not, this could explain your crowing hen. The dominant hen can crow (or something like a crow anyway) when there is no rooster around.

I've had chickens for a while now. This hen roosts in a cedar tree in the back yard. She actually crows in the mornings.

Have any of you guys had a hen does this. This is the first one that I have had that does this.

Nothing wrong with her. I was reading a post the other day about cross chicks who had more toes on one foot that the other.

BTW it won't be long and you'll be just as addicted to BYC as the rest of us!

With the black in the tail, and black flecs in the neck it looks like
it has some New hampshire blood in there if its not all New Hamp?

One of our hens is the honorary rooster as well. While she doesn't crow, she has spurs, has mounted other hens, and still has laid a few eggs (but not many). I envy you your laying hen/rooster, since Clarisse hasn't really delivered on the eggs.
