This is WAR I tell you! WAR!!!!

I love the PVC feeder on the door I think I will do that. but outside I found a large dog feeder for 2 bucks almost new I put it under the coop, I have a raised coop so they can go under it in bad weather, it seems that they can't jump on it or poo in it and it works for me. Very little waste at all.

I tried the pellets, but they just threw more out faster. I switched back to crumbles, they spend more time eating them and less time picking at each others feathers.

Thats funny, mine are exactly opposite, they don't like the crumbles.

Guess its just a trail and error thing to see which your chickens like best.

I'm going to try that one of yours Rooster Red, but with a cat litter bucket - I just have to find something for the pan at the bottom...................

I think the chicken feeders are the worst. The thing that works best for me right now is a round bowl with upright sides sitting in a wider bowl of the same shape. For some reason it works.
The other thing that is working great is a chamber pot! I fill it half way up with feed, there has never been any waste. I'm tossing the chicken feeders.

ARE CHICKEN FEEDERS THE WORST?

I just bought the regular round one you hang from the ceiling.

Seriously, I'd like to know what some of you think. I don't doubt you, Seminolewind, I'm just curious if others have had the same bad luck with them. I think I can still return mine for a refund.

I'll have 16 hens after I sell off 9 of my 25 chicks. So, the feeder I use needs to be large enough.

I recently accidentally discovered/created a new feeder. I had a large coffee can in my pullets cage and it was filled 3/4 with sand for the grit factor. One day I dumped some of the pelleted feed into it. (Purina Layena natural feed) It turned into the perfect feeder. Its high enough that they dont get the food out and they cant tip it over.

I also have a hanging commercial plastic feeder that I use with the chickens. If they make too much of a mess I let them scratch and eat off the floor before I fill the feeder again.

I dont like the crumbles, my chickens waste more of that than they eat.

i solved my waste problems and i switched to layer pellets too

almost no mess at all and i have a "roof" that i can attach for rainy days

i used an old feeder and its hard mounted to the tray

my hanging feeder that I bought from the store works great for me- it is about head- high and i hardly have any waste. I have 10 hens and 2 roosters- the only bantam is one of the roosters- and I haven't even gone through 100 pounds of feed in the last month and a week.
