I can free range too..but so afraid they will land in our swim pond
 
He/she is a Red Shouldered Hawk, very common in my area and they are very pretty!

Its a Sparrow Hawk

She is a good looking bird but deadly to be sure.

Takes a bird a week out of my garden. normally a pigeon.
 
It is the internet date come to pick up one of your girls to take out to dinner. Beware, he looks aewfully suspect in a bad way.

Agree it is a red shoulder hawk. We have a few of them around my place. I have a telescope set up to watch the nest. The parents are very loyal and they will sit on the nest thru all kinds of bad weather. They are here year around and I have never had any problems with them taking the chickens not saying they won't just we haven't experience problems before
