"These are definitely Red-shouldered Hawk shots. There are many clues that help you. The RS Hawk is in the buteo (sp) family. It's a fatter chest with a shorter tail. In other words, it looks like the typical hawk. The Cooper's is in the accipiter (sp) family. While it is not a falcon, it's body shape, tail length and stream-lined wings make you think it's a falcon like bird. The tail and underwing of the RS Hawk are striking in the contrast. The Cooper's is muted, but obvious. The length of the tail is a key factor for these two birds. Last, a Cooper's Hawk has a scowl on it's face that comes from the cap."
