Weather they are doing all the damage these folks say there are only 15 but this is what happens when something messes up folks nice things

IMO peafowl belong in the country

Well I am in a neighborhood. I had to move to town due to circumstances. I just couldn't stand to give them all up! . It took us two years to find a place tho, as I knew I wasn't giving up my dog, and being Pyrenees he barks a lot at night. Finally found a tiny little modular on the edge of town on an acre and 1/2 next to an abandoned junk yard. Luckily we only have neighbors on 1 side but my peas do go down there. One neighbor has chickens, another has two lots full of a grasshopper invasion. One guy doesn't like them, but we just kind of do the "I don't call the cops on you if you don't call them on me" thing as he loves to target practice and kill for skins, etc. also not legal in city limits.

I am sure if the residents hate them that much they could rehome them quite easily?

It only takes one person to know the law and make a fuss , that is my reason for posting the article.

I would be pretty angry if my peas got on my new truck and i love them and know it would need to be kept inside, i am wanting to buy a new truck but untill my DH is done with the new house and i can park it inside i am waiting, i know first hand how bad a pea can scratch a car just jumping on it one time, heck if someones free range peas came to my place they would not have peas any more if they came a second time and i live in the country.

I do agree, Zaz. I would get rid of them if anyone complained, but would be heartbroken. If was ok I would just build a large pen. I have asked everyone in our neighborhood if they are ok with them. Everyone loves them, so I am lucky, except the guy I can't communicate with. . I am lucky.

But I do know I am taking a risk. The guy across the street has horses, so it's a little 'rural'.

I am interested to see how it works out mabe having small numbers will be ok but i would be afraid that they would mess someones stuff up, all it would take is one time getting on someones car like some one visiting your neighbor that does not mind them but the visitor does and them take a cell photo of just one of your birds on their auto then file a claim against you for a paint job cause some of them scratches don't just buff out, they can be deep .

I am just sharing my experiences as to how they can mess something nice up real fast and folks will get mad, I only have one neighbor close to me and she is my daughter and lives on our land while they build a home on some land we sold them anyhow , as much as she like them and thought it would be ok to let them come visit i told her know that if i do not see them crossing the driveway to her place let the wiener dogs run them off, they have all kinds of toys and new autos over there it would be a recipe for a disaster cause they get all over my things ..

Most of my things are older than dirt, my truck was purchased for the farm 15 years ago and i use it like a farm truck so i do not care if the get on it, I got 3 tractors and one of them i got last year, they were on it the first day as they were on my new lawnmower, i have no place to keep them to keep off all of my things but this is a farm and these are the animals i have on my farm and i don't care

I know peas like to chill up high and live with it.











There folks were building the barn in the back ground and i told them never park where they did, the peas were all over even inside this truck and them fools parked their 3 days straight cause they did not care but then it was not their truck and i had warned the builder what can happen if they parked in the wrong place so i was not responsible for what they did to that truck

I find it funny that they have all of those trees to perch on and other places to perch, but they choose your vehicles and machinery to perch on. I guess even free-range peas are lazy and would rather find a low place to perch so that they don't have to flap so much to get up there. That or they are just trying to be like their momma Zaz using equipment and vehicles too! They want to go for a joy ride down some of those trails through the woods.

I worry about having peas in a neighborhood all the time. When my Grandparents first got their place it was on a dirt road in the country. Just recently they got a Wal-Mart down the road, and the road is a busy 4 lane with the interstate nearby.

The next door neighbor is old and has been wanting to move for a while. His next door neighbor wants to move as well. It might all be commercial land before long. If it gets to the point where there are new neighbors who don't like the peafowl, then I think I can re-locate them to some country land we have. I would no longer be 2 miles away from the peafowl though. Maybe more like 30 min. away from them which would be tough on me to make the distance longer instead of shorter. I really hope that I won't have a job that requires me to live in town. I love the country life and have always wished that I could have grown up in the country. My truck radio literally only plays country music, the other stations don't work so I am meant to live the country life!

When I free-ranged my first peas for a short time the only complaints I got were from me! Those darn peas always hid from me and made me go crazy looking for them every day. Talk about give me a scare. Then they really had to scare me by running away.

lol, the "tree branches" that grow in the shape of roll bars on trucks have an unobstructed flight path for takeoffs and landings. No dodging pesky overhangs or last miinute maneuvering around twigs and sticks. Gotta be way easier to land on the top of a tractor than a branch in the middle of a tree

I know I took a chance in bringing some with me. I am lucky in the fact it's a dead end street and most of the townsfolk don't even know there is a house here.

We live in a small town of 2,000. And boy do I know the damage they can do. In Nebraska I had 17 adults and about 20 babies. Most of mine don't jump on vehicles, but the new white guy does. My sweetie pies that got killed a week before we moved would not stay off them though. Maybe it's a blessing I didn't get to bring him, the good lord looking after me? Didn't feel that way though as I sure loved that bird, I still cry over the circumstances of his passing.

Had them since 2009, and love them all. I had to really downsize for sure, got rid of my ducks, geese, and 3/4 of my peas. I didn't expect to hatch any babies this last summer, it was kind of an accident.

We saw a fair amount of peafowl wandering about Hawaiian neighborhoods. But yeah, they are awful with cars. My husband has threatened to eat them more times than I can count.

Fur baby, that's reassuring. Myboyfriend lives in Hawaii and wants me to go there. I keep looking at cl and on btv threads and rare to see anyone even mention them. Right now he is just in small apartment, would love the weather but sure would miss my yard, garden, and birdies.
