They were announcing they were going to be up here for one young Marine's funeral. I went to stand with the Patriot Guard.
the family requested that we all sign the book of those who attended.
The cowards didn't bother to even show up, but we were waiting for them. Guess the freezing temps kept them away from that funeral.
They did show up at another because it was our senators nephew. THEY got harassed by the neighbors and other people. Even heard they got ticketed by the highway patrol on their way out of the state. Don't know if it was true, but it made everyone smile.

The best thing that those of us who cannot stand their hatred is to stand against them.

I wish they'd come to my state.... i'd go to jail for SURE though...

The constitution says that people have free speech. The court can not go against the constitution. The judge himself said that what these people were doing was horrible, but that this just isn't something the court can stop. They have to uphold the law.

The law is the same for everyone. Whether they are being hateful and obnoxious or not, their actions are not actionable.

The court can't always do 'the best thing'. They have to enforce the laws of the land.

There have been an awful lot of cases like this in the law, for many years. For example, the wife beater, crook, general all around bad person uneducated hood, who gets accused of murder. He gets the same treatment under the law as the church going business leader of the town. Just as careful and detailed a trial, and all the same due process.

Our country is a country of laws. All people are the same under the law. This is what makes our country great.

Ironically if the bereaved family's loved one actually was gay, given the way the law is written, the court probably could have put the whole bunch of morons in jail for a long time.

I am sure every judge in the land is going to give a hearty cheer when this group trips up. They have to do their job according to the laws of the land, but they are human and have personal feelings too.

Too, ultimately, we have to remember that we have the laws we want. People are tried by juries of their peers. If the laws are inadequate or poorly written so that they can't be used as they should be, it is our legal system, we have the power to change it.

The Patriot Guard was in town for a young soldier who had died in the line of duty and had been threatened by the Phelps clan, ( I will NOT recognise them as follwers of Christ) as a potiential target for thier "free speech."
The day of the funeral, the Patriot Guard was there riding the streets where the young man's procession was to be held. Our computer store is in a so-so neighborhood, but when it was time for the fallen soldier to come through, there were tons of people there, all locals lining the streets as the processional went through and he had the Patriot Guard to see him to his final resting place along with a convoy of officers, firefighters and Patriots to protect the family.
They never showed, thank God, but to see everyone out there was beyond inspiring. It made me like this town we are living in a little more.

And Wellsummer, I do agree with you. The law is the law. It's just these people that make you grit your teeth and pray for them to get thiers in a hopefully rapid manner of time.

Edited for typos and my stupid new keyboard and for being tired when I said officer not soldier. Going to shut up now and go to bed.

The Patriot Guard is awesome.

You can join 'em even if you don't have a motorcycle, if you feel strongly about this issue you should look them up and look into your local chapter.
