This just makes me sick!

A fire department can be funded in various ways. How the one
in your town is funded, and operates, I have no ideal. I meant
that for each of us...this site, Backyard Chickens, has a lot of readers
worldwide. So I'm not talking about any one person, any one town.

The fee for fire department coverage is nothing new. A lot of towns
use it. If there is a fee in your area, it's something you need to know
about. Try asking your fire department. Non-emergency telephone number.
A simple telephone call.

There is a hugh cost in a fire department.

That next call might cost me my life.

It might cost the life of one of my brothers.

To lay our life on the line...We don't do it for the money. It isn't about the
glory.

We do it because that's who we are are. We do it because that's who we
are inside.

We're the one thats rushing into the flames when you're running out. We're
the ones cutting someone's body out of that mangled car wreck. We are the
ones you call in an emergency.

Yeah, that's us.

That 24/7 volunteer in a big red truck.

You have no right to fire services.
The city county an state have no requirement to supply fire services. The county by choice is not.

The city along with its volunteers have offered to pick up the slack. All they ask is for $75 a year to help with expenses. This is equipment owned by the people of the city an manned by volunteers.

When a fire call goes out every one of these firemen have every right to stay on the couch an finish that movie or roll over an go back to bed. They have no obligation to help you. They chose to.

The City pays for an maintains that equipment for city protection. It volunteers its use out side the city to save lives. It has every right to say the equipment cant leave the city. They have no obligation to help the county. They chose to.

The firemen an the city are catching grief for not volunteering more when nether had any obligation to volunteer anything at all. They chose to.

Cowboy, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't risk my life for seventy five dollars.

I might risk my life for free....but not for money.

How 'bout you?

Some folks are just bound and determined to have tunnel vision. And thanks for the FYI - I would never have known that had you not informed me.

I have a dear friend who is a volunteer firefighter - according to him, part of his firefighter's code of ethics is "to safeguard lives and property"

As I stated before, I have utmost respect for firefighters, police, etc. None of my comments have been about the firefighters - but about the city/state laws that govern them.

If a fee is charged for a service and that fee is paid by the consumer, then the consumer absolutely has a right to those services they paid for. If the county, city, state, or fireman choose not to provide fire services, that is their right and that is fine - however, they cannot charge for a service that they do not provide.

I really don't understand why this has gone 17 pages.
I really don't.

There was a fee for fire department service. For whatever reason,
the homeowner didn't pay it. His home burnt. Poor choice? Maybe, but
it was not the fire departments poor choice.

You want to beat somebody over the head on this one? Beat the home
owner over the head. THEIR choice to not have fire coverage.

If there has to be a lesson here? Don't make poor choices.

Gooooooooooood Grieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeef !!! Nobody said a word about somebody not getting what they paid for. We were talking about what happens if somebody DID pay, an error was made and the FD said you didn't and would not provide services.

I remember the thought I had with 9/11 why haven't those firemen go in AFTER the flames of hell of a building and save the people.

It dawned on me when hubby told me, ff can not save everyone, even those who had perished, yes, even burning alive but they know they are in danger themselves. Better for the victim to be where they are so the rest of the people out of the zone are safe. It is such a cruel and harsh reality. It would be a VERY tough choice to tell your men, to vacate, even it is one of your buddies dying in the fire but know your men getting out alive is much more important when the building collapsed. May death be merciful for those who had perished.

I'm glad I do not have to make that decision nor work at the FD.

I think we have hashed it out long enough on this thread. For those who disagrees with the issues, go with an open mind that it is OK to disagree on the issues we will never agree on the story.
