It's illegal and just wrong to trap and relocate critters! Your bird needs a safe living space, and you need to decide if you can shoot this fox, realizing that it's only one of many predators out there, or if your time will be better spend actually protecting your hen.

Even if you remove this one Fox, your bird will not be safe in its current situation. The problem isn't the Fox. The problem is the lack of protection. Securing your coop and run should be your priority if you want this hen to survive..

Your right and I'm doing what is within my means. I was adapted by the bird (she was a resident of the property I rented), and doing what I can to earn her trust and secure her well being, but it must come within my ability to afford the effort as I must provide for my home first and do consider her as very important.

Buy her a little Prefabed coop and Run and let her out when you can watch over her...

I'd bring her in the house and put her in a box or dog crate each night until I had a coop.

Buy a Nite Guard or 2 and put them up on your coop. I’ve had great success with them. All the best & good luck.

Kiling...anyone can kill and I have...I'm an expert shot with small and large calibers, but killing has taught me how precious life is...if it is illegal to live trap and relocate why would I find comfort killing the animal...Mary I'm not a critic of your belief, but I don't find justification or an easy solution to end the life as this is not a sport as I know the trix to make an animal stop and look...because I know animal behaviour...that stop is often fatal but seldom is it instant and usually with suffering what will over time be fatal should they get away.
The real solution has already been stated secure a run and coop. Killing is my least choice and only the last resort...should no other option be available.

I'm new to raising chickens but suspect the guard being a rooster or two...in my case being legally deaf it really won't work well...on the other hand I have electronic skills so an alarm that would bother the animal would be helpful, though it may not be effective beyond one time use...after that they know what to expect.
