Y'all aren't gonna believe this! After typing that post yesterday I went home and at 5:30 in the afternoon, three hours before dark, I noticed another duckling missing. It was a large muscovie duckling, larger than my grown bantams, but still a baby.
Anyhow, I called my girls, aged 6&4 to help me look for their baby duck. As soon as we started gathering eggs and looking around mu oldest hollered "Daddy a coon is looking at me!"
I ran to the house, grabbed my .22 and corraled the girls to a safe spot. I looked under the barn, and sure enough about twenty feet away was a young coon eating my duck! I popped him and couldn't believe it (but yet I could), he was smaller than the duckling but had killed it and drug it off without even a sign of a struggle. A guinea, two roos, and 9 hens were within 50 feet, some ten or so feet away, and not making a sound while he was there eating their buddy!
