This place is so bad for me

--- Oh, I forgot! My French Marans went broody and they're sharing a clutch of 12 eggs! So that makes 33

Yeah, I keep trying to justify the girls by selling excess eggs at work and some hatching eggs, too.... My chickens now eat more than my cows! Insanity, I say!

Everyone needs at least one Turkey in there life! (Though I may be a bit bias as I'm writing this with a poult on my shoulder

). You could use them for broodies! Here's a picture from a older thread of a Hen that hatched out poults and Goslings:

Eep! I want turkeys! My husband asked why. I said I don't know! They look so cool! I don't even want to eat them. I love their plumage and carriage really- and the noise they make. I'm not one to get animals without having a purpose for them. With one exception- my bearded dragon. She has no purpose other than that I love her and I wanted her. haha! Ducks..eggs. Geese...intruder alarm. Dog...intruder attacker. Cats...mousers. Turkeys? I can't come up with one since I don't think I'd want to eat them. I want to add chickens next year but for eggs and eating. I am the same way with plants. I only plant ones that serve a purpose for me. I don't like taking care of roses or other pretty things unless they serve a purpose...(other than being ornamental. i am not that kinda girl.) I will be planting rainbow chard and other edible plants around the house and the raised beds- pulling out all the lilies and other bulb flowers and replacing them with things that have...purpose. But yeah...turkeys. Good luck with the brooding!

What a picture! I love turkey but to eat and i don't eat my pets so that would be a bad combo for us. I know my mothers friend had a turkey(a tom) he adored my mother!

LOL.. your funny, hey if you enjoy it why not, right? I have had the air let out of balloon.. just not having much fun here lately... It's not the birds it's just the loses that come with trying to add to our flock, i let 3 of my ducks go broody but that has resulted in a lot of stress... we lost our couple day old yesterday and my first nest we lost 2 ... only one duckling out of all this so far, it's doing super good @ 4wks which i am grateful for but i am not really feeling very 'let's add more' ya' know?

. I know the losses are probably one of the hardest parts. I lost both of my "Grandfather Stock" ducks back in March. When it happened I thought about just rehoming everyone but thanks to a few of the members I decided to keep everybody and continue to run my "Farm". Plus I have a broody Goose on 6 eggs which are due to hatch very soon so I'm sure there will be 1 or 2 losses in that hatch as well.

Aww that's so sad. I would be sad and stressed out too. I know that I will be glad I closed the flock after June as we contemplate what we want to do next year. While I am not overly concerned with making money off selling our extras eggs- I would like to recoup the cost of feed and the added water costs which as rather significant for us (keeping a man made pond full that drains nicely plus triple digits and nearly no humidity in full sun means a once a week top off.). So we have a lot of things to consider this year while we get our feet wet with farm livin'. I both dread and look forward to the breeding stages- for the very reasons to what you are experiencing right now. The excitement/stress. <3
