This place is so bad for me

Yes I believe so since every single one had a seizure in the exact same matter before it died I believe it was neurological. At that time my dominant drake was a crested. I think there's a lot more to the crested gene to be discovered that is currently known.

One of the 3 that we lost was a crested. And it's hard to say if the other 2 had the recessive gene. The only ducks I would consider breeding from my first batch (which is where the 3 deaths came from) will be the Pekins. The first death came about from bad feedstore advice. Told us to feed them food for a few minutes and offer water in 30 minutes. Specifically not to offer water at the same time as the food or the food would swell up an dchoke them. They assured me ducks were very stupid so I needed to do this. We almost lost 2 others from doing this before I scrapped the advice they gave me and gave them wet food at first with water to drink all at the same time. Only 1 random death after that while they were small and it was the crested. It just sort of keeled over and died. It was weird.

I'm sorry to hear that. We pretty much starting the lose wagon when we let them breed. With the exception of one of our original ducks at 1yo.. she died with no cause/explanation. Since we've always owned animals, the kids have learned often about the loss aspect but this duck/poultry concept seems to have more than it's fair share .. to think i thought fish were bad lol

Gosh it's definitely been a learning experience. It has also been training me to decide whether or not our family can handle true farm living. We are taking it easy the first year. We eventually want to add on one poultry and some goats. But definitely not rushing the whole thing. The ducks are training us!

I used to not be able to stand geese but we accidently got one that I thought was a pekin when I picked it up out of the duck brooder at Atwoods. Now it is my favorite and is the most affectionate of my birds. It has really bonded with my 3yo son. He named it Buckshot. The goose is unfortunately sick at the moment and my son wanted to go see it in the barn because he was concerned. When we got to it he said, "Buckshot, we will take care of you, I promise." Talk about ripping my heart out. I have to save that goose.

I just ordered 12 more ducks from Ideal (4 KC, 4 Cayuga, and 4 Buff) to go with the 4 ducks I already have. I found someone close to us that is selling Embden geese, so I may end up with a pair of them too. lol I would say I am addicted.

And I also want a pair of Bourbon Red Turkeys

Building off Oregon Blues's idea about selling turkey eggs for hatching, you could raise one of the critically endangered turkey breeds. That way the purpose is as a public service

I like the Narragansett the best, just because it reminds me of the ceramic salt and pepper shakers my mother made back in the 70's, which show up on the table every Thanksgiving. ah...nostalgia is a wonderful motivator...I wonder if I can talk my brother into raising a couple of these.
