this poor liitle chick is a liitle half way zipped for 24 hrs

Yesterday at 10:00am this poor little chick pipped. I think that the other chick in the bater messed her positioning up or something cause she banged into her egg. When should I intervene,

How is it going with this little one? Have you read the intervention post at the top of the forum? Is the membrane drying out? Don't know what else to say...just wanted to bump this up. Maybe someone with practical experience will come along.

I would at this point gently remove the shell from the chick. It's a gamble at this point. If it is not done absorbing the yolk by now, there was probably something wrong in the first place.

i'm not an expert, but did a lot of hatching (well, a lot for me) this past summer. My understanding is that it can take 24 hours from pip to zip. If it were me, i would intervene after 24 hours has passed with no progress.

It's hard to know when to help or leave things alone. I've never had much success with helping them hatch. Most of the time, if they aren't strong enough to hatch on their own, they aren't strong enough to survive.

Since it has been 24 hours, and she is half way zipped, meaning made progress and stopped, if the membrane that is exposed is now white, I would go ahead and intervene. Had the chick be just a eraser tip sized pip, I would say wait longer. But since you say it is zipped, (at least an 1.5 inches or so), get in there and see if the chick is stuck. Be very careful though, as if the chick starts to bleed, it is not ready. There is a sticky on intervention at the top, so good luck!
