This weekend....... *UPDATED WITH VIDEO*

I agree. Losing consciousness is instantaneous; he doesn't even know what hit him (or in this case, what he hit) before he is subsequently and swiftly beheaded. Either way though, in my book, it takes a lot of peanuts for someone to be willing and able to raise his/her own chickens as a food source and dispatching them for that reason. I commend those who do this.

On a tangential note, hi Margaret!

Vad kul, Stockholm ligger inte allt för långt ifrån mig. Brukar byta tåg där när jag ska resa till min pojkvän som bor nere i Katrineholm. Själv bor jag en bit norr om Uppsala.

feathersnuggles : It's some kind of hand axe. Weighs not much, and very easy to handle (I got 4 of them)... And it's very sharp as you can see!

I'm guessing that says something like 'Thanks for the video! It was very informative.' And something about going to college and their family lives in Stockholm.' I love different languages!

Your video was good. It was very quick. It seemed faster too, than what I typically see done. I wonder if a good kitchen cleaver would do the job instead of an ax?

not to thread steal , but i dont like to skin birds...i like the skin on, some dont, but are their any benefits to skinning as opposed to plucking, aside from the time saving? but even so, with a power plucker, its not so labor intensive and the time is saved. so any thoughts?

Thanks! ;D

I skinned this birds becuase I didn't want my hands freeze to death.

The skin (my hands) were colored blue when I was finished with all the roos (um, not so good I think >_<).
And I don't have a plucker.

But I do pluck some birds when the weather permits, I also like the skin!! ;D It's the yummiest part...

You guessed it.

"Thanks for the video! It was very informative.

I took a year of Swedish at the university and is married to a Swedish, and his family live in Stockholm"

Great thread and video. Answers so many questions satisfactorily that have come up in previous years. Should be a way to make this easy to find for others at later dates. Thanks so much.

I think I'm going to try this method when I start doing my own. My FIL is always splitting wood so I'll have him get me a nice tall tree stump like you've got. Will need to invest in a heavy cleaver too. Yup...like this method. Thought it odd at first but I really like the speed of it. I like the skinning too. I've never perfected crispy skin and when I started to try to eat healthier, I stopped eating it altogether. I typically skin what I buy anyway, unless it's a whole bird, and this will save me some time. It'd be nice to give customers the option too, of a whole bird or one deboned where the skinning would come in handy.

Do you have any idea what happens to the hens when there are too many roosters? Not to mention what they do to each other. If you did, you might not be so quick to judge.

This is the third derogatory post I've seen of yours, objecting to people eating meat, butchering for meat, etc. This IS the meat bird section, so most topics deal with raising chickens for MEAT. Perhaps you'd be happier in one of the areas dealing with chickens as pets.

BTW, since most people can't afford to keep livestock as pets, if nobody raised them for food, most varieties would go extinct. Maybe that would that make you happy, but many of us would like to preserve biodiversity in both animals and plants.
