I don't know if they are meat turkeys or what,

what I want to know is with what I have, unknown, about the breed I have, how would you feed (percentages of what) to give and maintain the best bird.

I wiil select stock for tomorrow from the birds we raise. I will of course allow my hens to visit the neighbors toms to build the flock.

The only thing I can control is my select hens, they would have the best of mates when they had the need. It is just a food and supplement thing, is it a cup of 18% this or that per bird and what else will give me the best odds???? Thanks for any help you can give.

You want to start them out on a high protein feed...28% is standard. Different people will feed the 28% for various lengths of time (1 month to lifetime) before switching to something like chicken meat maker (22% protein). When they are full grown, you can drop the protein level further. I think the turkey layer I use is 17% protien. It has more calcium than chicken layer, but you can supplement with oyster shell if you cant find turkey layer. If they are allowed to free range, they will supplement their diet to meet their needs.

I love Costa Rica. Wish I lived there!
