Can you tell us what virus they had?

The virus had no actual name according to the vet it was causing sinus problems and attacking their pancreas from what the autopsy showed.

I got these silkies free from a friend and he gave me 6 as day old chicks the first 4 just died instantly. And then these 2 survived. The virus was 2 years ago. He's also giving a brahma who had a stroke a week later and wyandotte who had worms so terribly that she died from them even after treatment. This guy does not take good care of his birds. I don't think he really knows what he is doing.

If he's treating them that bad I'd tell him politely that his hens aren't in good condition and point him to some sites or books. The book I use is "Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens".

I'm thinking that whatever virus they had has reared its ugly head. I'm also seeing a whole lot of things that point me towards thinking Marek's. That white silkie that can no longer walk just looks like Marek's to me. I've now seen about 35 of my own chickens with it and there are some things that jump out at you. Please, don't jump to any conclusions. I've just giving you my honest opinion. Read threads. If one of them passes, have another necropsy done so you will know for sure.

Most virus's that chickens get they remain carriers for life, and I'm afraid it may be acting up again. If this is the case it will spread to your other chickens. Here's a common disease chart to look at. Look closely at Mareks. A lot of people are having trouble from the heat right now too, is it hot where you are?

You must understand. I have had them checked at the vets it is not the virus. I'm looking for more mental problems. Like if it's affecting their brains more than anything. And no other birds are unhealthy. And i will lok into meraks but I doubt that is it because my birds are vaccined against it

I am no authority on Mareks BUT I was told that a two year old would not be suffering from Mareks - it normally affects much younger birds. Is there any chance that your girls may have eaten some mouldy food or something toxic? I ask this question as I had problems with a two year old chicken, she lost control of her walking and she was pecking at food but missing the feeder - it was suggested to me that she may have been suffering from toxic poisoning - my girl recovered after intensive care and she had a good quality of life.

Marek's vaccine does not prevent the birds from getting Marek's, it only prevents them from developing the tumors associated with the disease. You can try treating them for a vitamin deficiency..that can cause the symptoms you are describing. .5mls of poly vi sol, without iron, once daily and 400 ius of vitamin E twice daily. The fact that your birds are losing weight in conjunction with the rest of the symptoms is what brings me to suggesting Marek's as a cause.
