Those that got chicks from the "straight run" bin....

i have ten chicks i got out of straight run bins at rural king. 5 EE and 5 assorted bantams. so far it doesn't seem like any of them are gonna be male lol...i hope it stays that way

There is an easy solution to this problem when buying from the straight run binm
Just learn how to sex them and choose all the pullets that you want, and
Still only pay the st run price. You are allowed to pick the chicks you want
At tsc, and it just so happens that I want mostly pullets out of the st run bin.

If you say that the bin is 99 percent males then that means they have already
Been sexed either at the hatchery or shipped that way to get rid of em, or
Someone has come through and already bought the pullets out of it. Everytime
I check the st run bin tho, there are always about half pullets and half cockerals
In there.

It is very easy to sex most chicks up to 5 days old and be very accurate. When I
Do buy them like this tho, I only buy at most 10 chicks so I don't take them all.

Good luck next time!

We just finished feather sexing our 26 straight run barred rocks, that we ordered from the local eleveator. From what we see there is 13 pullets, 12 roos and one toss up, that is too close to call. Roger thinks it's another pullet, but not positive. Rosie & Roger

more people pay the extra for the pullets. they don't want the extra roosters so they are used as staight runs or packing peanuts.

Our straight run came from the Townline hatchery in Zeeland, MI. They were ordered from our local elevator. So it's 50/50 or close to it. Roger
