Thought I killed my tom!

So I'm outside feeding, and I notice my one little EE hens leg stretched out. I follow her leg and see that one of my 6 week old toms has her leg and is pulling her away from the food bowl. So i nonchalantly reach down and knock him away. I guess I hit him just right on the back of his head and he goes down! He fell right to the ground, wings stretched straight out, & he's twitching! I think OMG I just killed my baby! I'm out in the coop picking him up & letting him go droppin onto the ground (trying to make him stand), telling him please don't die, when here comes our 8 yr old son. He looks down sees the turkey, looks at me, and yells "IT DIDN'T HAVE TO END THIS WAY!"

I'm thinking what have I done, when the turkey stands up, shakes off and walks away. I about died!

It's hilarious now, but at the time it wasn't funny one bit.

So just thought that I'd share funny story with everyone! I know now,,,...don't tap turkeys on the head unless it's thanksgiving!

My wife did the same thing to a rooster. She had a plastic fence post in her hand when it charged her. So she gave it a whack! It staerted flopping all over the place like..well...a chicken.. with its head cut off. It quit flopping and fell to the ground. She had work to do so she let it lay. By the time she finished chores it was up and crowing!

I did that to a 9 – 10 month old Moose when we lived in Alaska. During the winter the Moose would come over our 6’ chain link fence into the back yard. I’d open the gate and run them out so we could turn the dog out in the yard. One morning a friend and I were setting have coffee when I noticed a Cow & Calf in the back yard. So we went out and opened the gate and started herding them out of the yard. The cow went through the gate and the calf stopped about 20 feet from the gate. It’s head was toward the gate other end toward me so I picked up a piece of ice about the size of my fist and LOBED it at it’s butt. Well he whirled around just as I threw the ice and it hit him right between the eyes. His legs went straight and he hit the ground like a ton of bricks. He trashed on the ground doing the funky chicken for a couple minutes. We thought I had killed him! About the time I was thinking of having to butcher him out he sprang up to his feet and went to the far end of the yard. Had a heck of a time getting him out the gate after that. They were back the next day none the worst for the wear!
