Thought it was a roo. I think I am wrong...

Ahhhh crushing my hopes! Haha. Oh well. I believe it hatched in October. But hey, I could be wrong. I don't really keep up with when everyone was born. Only when the eggs were set under broody. If she came from the only red hen I have, she has a pretty big comb herself. But then again, could take after Daddy which is my big buff orp Grabber.

ETA:I will try to get a pic of the suspected Momma. Be prepared, she is pretty ugly...

He does look older to me than two months. I'd guess he's at least three, probably four months old. I still say rooster though.

I was going to ask on my first post what mix he was, 'cause I was guessing Buff Orpington x Rhode Island Red. When you cross these two breeds you get a dark gold or orange bird with a black or dark green tail.

Ok, he must be older then. And my 'Mommy brain' must be getting worse.

The Momma I think he came from isn't a RIR I don't think. I honestly don't even know what she is. I do have a RIR but she just started laying not even a month ago.
Here is my suspected Momma. Bought her from a local who was a little happy with beak clipping EVERY bird. Told you she was ugly...

Here is Henry again with his hatch day mate.

Sure thought I was looking at a mature hen.........if it really is only two months old may still be a roo, I guess. Sure looks like a grown up girl to me

Your "ugly" hen (she's not that ugly
wink.png
) is a red sex-link, sired by a Rhode Island Red rooster, so she could very possibly be Junior's mother. Although I think I see a purebred RIR hen in the foreground? What breeds are your other hens? I also see an Easter Egger... If you have any interest in knowing Junior's dam's breed, I'd love to help!

I should have got a picture of it next to one of the birds that hatched in April for a size comparison.

Cowgirl, very right. I do have one RIR girl who just started laying (after the red one was born) and I have a few EE's. Also some Cochins, some Australorps, a Serama, Black Stars, and a Game Hen.

I think the picture doesn't do her justice. She is sweet when you have treats, just not a looker. lol.

Dad only has two options. The BO, which I'm almost sure it is. And a EE roo who passed recently. Thanks for helping!

Daddy was definitely Grabber. Mother was probably "Ugly," but could have been a Black Star. Junior's coloring says his mother had a red gene, and since Black Stars are half RIR, he could have been from one of them. But I'd guess he's out of "Ugly" (who's really not that ugly, LOL).

I'm not a color genetic expert, but I'd think that if he was out of a Black Star hen he'd have some kinda black leakage somewhere (besides his tail). If you really want to know for sure, RAREROO would probably know!

That sure is a interesting looking EE roo! I've never seen a bird with large wattles and muffs before, usually a bird with muffs has tiny almost-not-there wattles... He also has feathered legs, a large single comb, and beautiful unique coloring.

Awesome! Well thank you...I will have to come up with a better name for her than ugly, she did make a pretty baby after all! HAHA

Anywho thanks, that bird was named Bel Air. He was awesome and pretty big! But unfortunately passed away I guess it was about a month ago? Oh heck I don't know...my since of time may be a little off.

I say pullet - even with the young age. I had a pullet with a HUGE comb, and HUGE feet who did everything first- we named her Roobee (Ruby) cause we thought she be a roo. She lays the largest eggs in my flock - good luck with Henly!
