Thoughts on barnevelders

The research Ive done so far into breeds leads me to think that barnevelders are the starter chickens for me. I like that are hardy and easygoing while also being good layers and not known for being broody. Seems like a good chicken for an inexperienced keeper to start with. Any thoughts on the breed? Am i right in my assumptions of them?

Yes Barnevelders are a very good breed to start with. Very pretty too.

They are expensive though arent they? 10 dollars a chick from meyer. If I did a pickup maybe it would be worth it. Not to ship though. I think I may go simpler and cheaper for my first set of chicks.
