Thoughts on Moulting (Molting) aka I'm not getting eggs!!

Hi I realize your post is old but I have a question that maybe you can answer I have 2 americanas when I purchased them I was told they were about 1 year old they laid an egg just about everday we live in southwest florida about 10 weeks ago or so they stopped laying completely so you see i wasnt winter they are not sick any help would be greatly appreciated.

You don't say how long ago it was that you purchased them but if it was 6 months to a year chances are they have gone into moult or are just in reduced production, My Americanas tend to go without laying for long periods at about 1-1/2 to 2 years of age and, while they will start to lay again, are very sporatic. I rarely don't get more than an egg or two a week from them but the eggs are generally large. Generally, these are not production birds that are kept for the number of eggs they produce but rather for their "Easter egg" colors. If you want production you either have to keep replacing them with young birds or keep a dozen or so.

Hi I purchased them in May and as of today still no eggs from them I have 16 chickens all together 4 are approximately 24 weeks old and I have gotten no eggs from them. I have 4 black austrolorps 2 americanas one barred rock 3 rhode island reds and two buff.. I love them so much but as of date I get no more then 5 eggs 12 are of age of laying.

I've said this before, but the chickens' bodys will decide when they are of laying age. Given the variety of breeds you have it is hard to tell which are laying(aside from the Americanas) and which are not--in my experience Buff and Austrolorps are slow to come into laying whereas RI Reds and barred rocks start younger. Even so the age of each individual chicken varies--my latest group of reds, rocks and leghorns from a first week in April hatch started in late Sept., began in dribs and drabs with the leghorn not laying until the second week of Oct. Hang in there, with a flock like you have it won't be long before you'll have more eggs than you'll know what to do with.
