I recently got these cuckoo satin silkies. What do y’all think overall? I think they’re pretty and have some good features tho could improve in areas too. Hens posture could be better but what do yall think of wings and toes? And the combs. They don’t look like the typical walnut but they’re similar?
I know satins are technically a mix but regardless of that.
Also a picture of my pretty blue satin bc I think she’s beautiful

I personally stay away from satin as I'm just trying to breed show quality here for 4H and better, but that said, in MY opinion, there are a few silkie breed variations that can get by with it, cuckoo, and mottled being two of them. I have both, but they're silkie.

Beautiful birds! :love

I have probably 20+ regular silkies but these are my three satins. They’re not my favorite but I do think they’re beautiful! I’m really using the cuckoo to breed to my silkies so I can get cuckoo silkies. I couldn’t find a breeder within range that had a regular cuckoo silkie so I’m going the long route here haha.

I'm too old to think about doing much multi-generational breeding so stick to a couple of generations at most. I buy a lot of hatching eggs, and Bobbi Porto indigoegg.us is where I got my last cuckoos.

Their combs seem about the same as my other silkies with the exception of being red. Here's a few of mine for example of size.

This is my older male cuckoo frizzle that I don't even know where he came from or what he's mixed with, as he's got a lot of leakage, but he makes gorgeous babies. His pen is the "fun" pen.

I do love a lemon cuckoo. My favorites are chocolate. These are the most experimenting I’m doing. My “fun pen” if you will. I haven’t ordered eggs online because all of my friends hatch rates aren’t as good but it is tempting.
I want to see how far I can get with what I have and occasionally add in some with the qualities I need to improve on. Such as the red combs
