Thoughts On This Coop From TSC

Change of plans. I'm scraping the pre-made idea and and making a coop. After much research, it's just far more cost effective not to mention better quality (which is what all you told me, lol).

8'x4' coop with 14'x8' run. I'm potentially at 11 chicks now - so, 3 sf in the coop and 10 in the run w/ 6 nesting boxes.

I'm just going to carve the time out and do it. I already drew up the design and made my material list.

I'll post pics when I'm done - just need my tax return to show up to start. Thanks again for all the help!!!

If anyone is thinking of doing the large metal run, let me tell you what I did for $300 total. My local Stockdales has 6' tall 10x10 chainlink panel "dog pens" for $199, with full walk-in gate. I got one of those and then put 1/4" hardwire mesh from halfway/3' up on the panels down to the ground and outwards another 2 feet for digging protection, then put a thick bird netting over the top and the remaining 3 feet on the chain link not covered by the hardwire mesh. I fully meshed the gate and wrapped it around the side where it is secured by multiple metal hooks/snaps to keep anything from going in the larger openings around the door. It makes a great solid pen that I can walk in and hang out with the birds, and they have a 4x4 raised house my dad built that is fully inside the pen they can go under/in/over so there's no wasted room. Their food/water/oyster all hang under the house, and they mostly sleep on top of the house, so they have a full 100 sq ft of room for 4 birds for much cheaper than anything prebuilt at TSC.
