That was what made me suspicious also. If he had the candler, why wait until the very end to candle? I bet something happened that was his fault and he wants to pass the blame to someone else.

I too would ask for the eggs back and see if they had developed at all.. If they even started then you know it was his fault...

His next email was not rude at all, said he was hoping for the best but sometimes these things happen. I really want to find out more about his incubation practices, I am completely stumped.

If I ask for the eggs back should I give a full refund or half his money back?

Thank you

Until you phsyically see its your fault I would not give any money back.. Part of buying hathcing eggs is the chance they wont hatch ... If you find it was your fault then yes I would give him his money back .. As far as asking for the eggs back I would simply ask him if you can have them so that you may examine them further.. Explain that you really want to make sure you are selling good viable eggs.. Also I would ask how he had tried to hatch them .. Tell him its all about you being a better seller...

I thought this exact same thing. If he was successfully candling them by Day 7 or so he could see they were all clear and not developing and could have brought it to my attention then. Two days before the eggs should be hatching just seems a weird time to bring it to my attention... if he waited this long why wouldn't he let me know after the expected hatch date?? So I am not the only one who thinks something is fishy?

Have the guy bring you the eggs. Open them together and if there are embryos in there, don't bother with any sort of refund. Sounds like buyer might have had an incubation accident.

This is what I am going to do. I have no problem refunding him if it was something wrong on my end, I just cant understand how it could be.

Thanks everyone!!!

I agree 100%. Tell him you will exchange the eggs for new ones. Either open them together or take them home and open them. I think it's worth that to investigate what went wrong for your own experience. I would want to know. If he doesn't have the eggs anymore-there's nothing more to do.

Make sure you tell him that it's an exchange because you'd like to figure out what's wrong. If his eggs are gone, you know there's more to his story that he's not telling you.

AND regardless, the mail didn't mess with the eggs and he should have got at least one out of it unless it was his fault. All the possibilities from your end had been eliminated, fertility, the PO , mishandling, age of eggs.

There is no guarantee when you ship eggs.. I would ask how to make it right also and tell him that if he didn't at least go to day 21 ... maybe he marked the date wrong... Offer to help with thought on hatching etc... You can make a friend of an enemy... He may just be a newbie to the whole business and was off by a week... I have done it... It is probably heartbreak for him not a crooked deal... If he were going to be crooked he would make sure his math was right.. More than likely he is new or dumb... Help out the poor soul and be kind.... That is it's own reward.. I don't think I would make a stink... I would offer to ship him more eggies and keep in touch throught his hatch process... Remind him of candling dates, ask about humidity.. share some chick pix with him.. If he is a first timer he will appreciate it.. .It could be an LG spike that creamed all his eggs or loose aircell that would have been best served using an egg carton on day 18... Did you point him our way??? He might be just frustrated and need the support of some good ol fashioned BYC lovin!!!

He very well could send you good customers later on... Good stewardship pays off in the end... Anyone can have a good transaction... Great ppl can make good out of a bad transaction... (and ya you could lose... but you can't win if you don't throw the dice)

Its buyers risk..
I have paid big bucks for eggs and none hatched..
I never blamed the seller..i blamed myself and my hatching ability....

Well..i guess if they all candled clear..then i might be a bit upset...
but really..i just CANT believe the guy is telling you the truth...like you siad..you test fertility all the time...
I think hes just a sucky hatcher and wants some free eggs...
