I have three broody ducks sitting on one nest (which thanks to a blacksnake is down to 2 eggs!). I also have two broody silkies sitting on a nest. I let the other chickens continue to lay for 3 days after the broodies start, then typically mark them. Well, I fell on day 2 and hurt my foot, so I couldn't really get out there except to feed them. I'll be candling tonight and moving some of the younger ones into the incubator. I have 5 incubators empty, just screaming for more eggs, but I do not need more chicks! I must resist!
Both of my broodies are silkies, and the only way to break them is to let them hatch babies out. I can't just give them chicks, they will abandon them. I may take the eggs away from the ducks and give them new ones since I've found the blacksnake and relocated it.
