Now have 3 laying. Red sex-link laid at 24 weeks and golden laced Wyandotte at 25 weeks. FINALLY, at 30 weeks, barred rock gave us an egg (pale and kinda speckled). Still waiting on my welsummer and easter egger! It's like having an easter egg hunt every day! These are my first chickens and I'm just so excited. Fun determining who is laying by color --glad I have all different breeds. AND they all three laid so nicely in separate boxes this morning. I've been afraid they were too small but apparently not. (old kitchen cabinets that we built into the coop). They aren't using the larger box area which I thought they'd prefer-- a bit larger, darker and in the corner about 1 foot off the floor. They have 4 boxes (with curtains, naturally LOL) but they are barely 12" tall and nearly 3 feet off the ground, slightly higher than the roost. They do seem to like them though. Must be the cute curtain (and everybody laughed at me for those). Wyandotte did lay a couple on the floor of the coop, but now always lays in the box. Also.... my rooster is GONE. Hate it, but he was getting a little noisy and a bit aggressive with me (only me). Lucy, the red-sex link hasn't skipped a beat--she is TOTALLY top of the pecking order. She thinks she's a rooster. Her egg is the darker brown. Can't wait to see the welsummer and easter egger's eggs! Should be a beautiful array of color.

It is so fun when you just start getting eggs!!! Usually the other start soon.
