Three pullets ... I hope

okay three last photos that I think clearly show the saddle feathers. I will be sending these to the farmer as well.

yes, all roos. Sorry

I don't have enough experience to tell you definitively what sex they are (though I'd bet heavily on the barred one being a roo). I will suggest, however, that waiting for them to grow out a bit will nullify any argument the farmer might have. And if one or two turn out to be pullets? Cool.

They definatly are Cockerels

Well I thought I would post the results. Yesterday all three were "attempting" to crow, at least that is what it sounded like to me. I took them back to the farmer this morning and traded them out for pullets about the same age. He said they came from the same brood. I can believe that. So I got a Loupe, Heritage RIR, and an Americana. To me I can see huge difference in the tail structure of the pullets compared to the cockrels. The pullets tails seem tighter and the feather don't flop to the sides. While the Americana does have a big comb and wattle, the tail looks like a pullet. He also told me that one or two of them were starting to lay and he had seen small eggs. I will post photos later. Thanks again for the support from everyone who posted!

Already more red flags from this person. "americanas" from those sort of person very likely are EE- easter eggers. And they are NOT supposed to have big combs and wattles.

I'd suggest to avoid this person in the future if you're interested in pure breds or at the very least, accurately labeled birds.

Might be fun for rest of us to see pictures of those new birds...

I'm a farmer and I sell a good number of birds. On behalf of good farmers everywhere, allow me to apologize for what you went through. The red flush on white bird is a classic male of a red sex link type cross. The Barred Rock is of hatchery stock, not true bred, but nonetheless, if you cannot sex Barred Rocks, you might want to stop selling chicks as anything besides straight run. Sorry again for your inconvenience. It's embarrassing, frankly.
