BYC members. Last month I bought 11 easter egger chicks from first monday, as well as four BR pullets (4 months but still kinda small). One of the pullets died but the other three are okay. The chicks outgrew their box brooder in a week, so I split them between two boxes. Now they where beginning to jump out. They are three weeks old (well, technically 2 weeks six days but still lol) and I put them in with the three pullets (just starting to show red comb, still smaller than my adults in another pen). I put them in their and so far things seem to be working. I put a brick in the pullets water bowl to make sure the chicks don't drown. Also, the cage that the chicks got let out of forms sort of a small barrier twix the chicks and the pullets. Hung a heat lamp for good measure. The pullets seem to only give a chick a single peck if they get right under them, and they get food and water okay. There are both roosters and pullets among the EEs (they were straight run, and I certainly recognize some cock-like aggression from a few. My question is, is this okay? Has anyone done this? Any advice? Any response will be appreciated!

A Three week age difference is is usually the maximum that I go by. I've been trying to put my 2 month and 3 month old chickens together and the little ones get harassed a lot.
If your pullets seem to be tolerating the little ones then it must be okay. They ARE outnumbered by the EEs. And they may just be mild mannered pullets. Just check on them often at first to make sure no one is getting hurt.

Okay, thus far no one is getting hurt, but the little one's avoid the big ones like the plague. Seriously, the pullets on one side, the chicks will go to another. Somehow three got outside this morning. They stayed near the heat lamp, so there okay. Still concerned with how they got out.
