I love a bargain. For months I have looked at Wal-Mart for a medium size purse with pockets. Not my taste or where made! So I looked at Goodwill. Purses like new, even a leather one, for $3 and exactly what I wanted. Yes, made in China but I will buy recycled if necessary.

Everything in the store looked clean. Sure, some things are out of date, but so am I out of date! lau. In the past, I found a nice 100% wool navy blazer for $5--a size smaller than I normally wear. (We know that manufacturer trick, eh ladies!) Evidently, some people gain weight, die, or just have money to spare.

What have you all found at thrift shops? One treasured item I have is a small butterfly leaf bedside table that was painted yellow in a junk store for $5. It had a minor cigarette burn but refinished, it is beautiful.

With me it is a game, just like using coupons.

When my DD was a teen, she loved to shop at Goodwill. She thought it was great to get four times as many clothes as her friends had.

I love thrift stores for halloween costumes!! I have used old prom dresses to make costumes with, and older clothing too. I have actually never really found any gems, but it ain't over yet!

I think not having thrift stores close by is the one thing I miss most about moving to the country. We used to go all the time. I could get old books for like a dollar and I could almost always find a cool purse.

I envy you!

The best thing I have found at a thrift store was a old jewlery box with velvet interior. I still have it and it is beautiful. I paid $11 for it I think. I also have a set of Alice in Wonderland books from the 1920's that I got for $3.

There's some pretty fancy thrift stores or "consignment" stores in downtown vancouver. Lots of them are still expensive, but there's this one store where I found a $140 summer dress for $40, and $100 strappy sandals for $20. In brand new shape too, it was great!

I love the Goodwill, Salvation Army, and a store we have in El Paso that I can't remember the name of but the proceeds support the Battered Woman's Shelter. I have no problem with buying used clothing and accessories and washing them. The only thing I don't like to buy used is shoes, toe jam, yuck!! But that is my personal thing, just me.

LOL! I was just at the thrift store yesterday. I had to get dd (6) some dark colored shorts for summer. She likes to sit on the ground and gets her bottom black!! Got a whole bag of clothes for $5, 2 books for .25 each ( 1 for dd (10) and 1 for me, a perfect condition girl scout book from 1947 - they had a poultry raising patch back then

) and dh got 2 cookbooks for $1 each.
We usually go on Saturdays but we happened to be near it yesterday. We have 2 pretty good ones here in town and 1 really good consignment shop. The rest are about 1/2 hr away.

Great find on the purse

them!!! We've got a few that we hit which have "Sack" sales and anything you can fit in a paperbag from the store for $2 a bag! I load up on books, socks for the kids, and then anything else we find!! Since I've moved to the country I don't come into to town to garage sales!

My mom and I go every Wednesday when I take her grocery shopping. We always find something. This week I got some nice slacks, shirts and ties for my son and 4 Aeropostle polos. I usually only have to buy new clothes for my youngest because it's hard to find XXL clothing at the goodwill store.
