Observation when they are all out. If there is a lot of hiding, avoiding, lack of scratching around, dust bathing, casual preening they may be stressed. Also watch how the submissive cockerel behaves.I wonder if my hens are stressed. How would I know?
Grit is very inexpensive. I keep it out and my birds regularly help themselves to it and they have access to 1/3 acre pen. I would put it out in a free choice feeder.I don't know about the grits, someone said they can get their own if they free range and mine do about 3 times a week, I'm hoping that is enough. Thank you.
It's really nice to have people help me. I need it badly. Being new at raising all these beautiful animals has been a challenge.
