Lucky you, I don't have a single egg for the incubator yet.

I have 22 chicks coming in on June 1st, & July 15th.(Separate orders)

I've got lots of chickens too, & soon will be knocking the number down abit, & probably do alittle rearranging.

I am super surprised the RC RIR eggs arrived from OH already. I am waiting for the RC RIW from VT, but the weather has been rough over there I understand. The live chicks will be here around the 6th, those are coming from MO.

I am just hoping the eggs hatch. I know from experience how hard it can be to get mail shipped hatching eggs to hatch. Even ones mailed short distances can have low to zero. However the eggs were the only viable option.

What's RC?

Most of the eggs I hatch come from Ohio.

RC = Rose Comb

I can get SC (Single Comb) Rhode Island chicks way easier. The Whites are not even suppose to be single comb, but the hatcheries only breed and sell single comb whites.
Okay, I'm not used to seeing that initials for rose comb.

It has been like looking for a mythical creature… 😂 Rose Comb Rhode Islands… right up there with Bigfoot.

All Whites are supposed to look like this:

Reds… can have either comb type. There was a pea comb variety but it is extinct now.

Any way hoping for a few chicks of each.

You maybe able to recreate the varieties that aren't common, or no longer exists.

Actually, the pea comb ones still exist, but they are a separate breed called Buckeyes.

Buckeyes and Rhode Island Reds were being developed around the same time, and were temporarily considered to be versions of the same breed, but then the woman who developed the Buckeyes decided the Rhode Island Red standard was not quite what she wanted for the breed, and she split them off again.

I have some Buckeye Chicks ordered, so it will be interesting to compare Non SOP SC RIW, RC RIW, SC RIR, RC RIR and the Buckeye. The RC RIR hatching eggs are not dark brown eggs, but are nice sized. These eggs are from show lines. (Crossing the fingers for a good hatch). The RC RIW eggs are coming from a preservation breeding farm, so not sure how they will be or potential. The SC RIR chicks are from Ideal, the SC RIW and Buckeye chicks will be from Cackle. I should get a good look at the breeds from this sampling.

Buckeyes are/were Pea Combed RIRs? Interesting.
