we just got our first eggs today!!! I shared this news with some of my local chicken friends via email and one of them who's a tell-it-like-it-is-no-nonsense gal, emailed me that the extension poultry agent in our county told her to throw her first few eggs out.

??? Should I? Why??? They're not misshapen, or shellless or bloody or anything. Look like perfectly good eggs. If I 'should' then is it okay to give them to my dogs at least????

Unless you have had your chickens on some type of worm medication with a withdrawal period or something like that, there is no reason to throw out the first eggs. They are as nutritious and safe as any others.

Such myths.

Ditto! We haven't let a single egg go to waste yet. Our chickens haven't been on any medications though either.

The only egg "wasted" so to speak was one with a soft shell that cracked when I was rinsing the poop off the shell. Our dog ate that one, so not really "wasted."
