We just had a major T.S. our first of the season. My big girls went into the coop, but the babies stood under a tree in a soaking wet mass. How do I get them to go in the coop with out me having to chase them. Is it that they don't have the sense to get out of the rain.

They have the sense, some just enjoy it. My roo stayed out in the rain all day yest, while my hens sat on the porch of the coop and watched him like he was crazy. I suppose it feels good....and the worms come out!

My roo stayed in the rain/thunderstorms for most of yesterday, however, he's a crazy nut. He also loves to crow as loud as he possibly can once the rain stops.

You've heard the expression "Made as a wet hen"? I've never hear of "Mad as a wet chick" or "Mad as a wet roo". My chicks used to stand in the rain for a little bit but now at the ripe old age of 11 weeks they run inside fast as rockets. Maybe they realize once they're older that they have a nice dry house for a reason.

Ours will either go running for the barn when the storm comes, or they stand in the pouring rain and enjoy the cool water and breeze, especially on very hot days. Most of them that take shelter will come out in the rain as soon as the thunder and lightning slow down. Think about it...wild birds enjoy a bird bath...so why not chickens!
