Congrats to tired momma and you!

Ya got me dreaming now.................sigh, our Fila just passed away two days ago - he was 10, so we now have an empty mastiff kennel.

Silkie, yeah, they wouldn't do real well in an apartment

Horse Feathers, I love the Corso! I just hope they don't get too extreme with their *looks*! I've already seen it happening and they are starting to look like tight faced Neos!! (which they both have common ancestry)

Horse Feathers, I'm sooo sorry you lost your Fila, they are an amazing breed and DEFINITELY NOT FOR EVERYONE. Neither is the TM.

I've been fortunate with this litter since it is sired by the top winning Tibetan Mastiff in AKC history (short history actually, we've only been reluctantly recognized since 2007), a huge golden boy named Bartok (GCH Sengkhri Bartok at Dawa), who died only 11 days after the last breeding with Helena from cryptococcus gattii, an insidiious fungus that strikes healthy and weak immune systems alike, its a fungus. He came down with a lethal spinal meningitis and was gone 4 days later. He only has one other litter on the ground and his frozen semen may not be good enough to inseminate future females because it doesn't handle the freeze and thaw very well.

so I've been very lucky to have a reservation list in excess of 13 of folks wanting a puppy from this litter. both parents are health certified (OFA and/or Penn Hip) as well as CERF (eyes), and thyroid tested. The mom, Helena is specials quality (she is an AKC CH) but she hates to show, so she stays home.

Quoting from news article:

"They say money can't buy love – but £1million will get you man's most expensive best friend. A red Tibetan mastiff has become the priciest dog in the world after being sold for 10 million Chinese yuan, or £945,000. Big Splash, or Hong Dong in Chinese, was bought by a coal baron from the north of China."

This dog is jaw-dropping stunning and I don't usually do lots of hair and tails. That's why my dog of choice was always Dobermans. My last big dog who passed last March was Otis, a French Mastiff who was an awesome companion. I miss him so much.

You have to go look at this dog! Seabreeze, yours are gorgeous as well and being with the breed you probably have already seen a picture of him. I have a friend who shows St. Bernards (infact she went over to Switzerland and bought her last one from the monks at the monestary that are famous for them). She told me a man who seemed to be at all the shows she took her Saints to had an huge gorgeous TM who hated Saints for some reason. She said every time they would see each other coming they had to go waaaay around or in opposite directions.

My dogs now are Chinese Cresteds. I have a Powder Puff who has lots of hair, but on a MUCH smaller scale, and two hairless. I love my babies!!

Chickmate, yes, I know about that 11 month old, 180 lbs., puppy!!! He will never be able to perform when he hits puberty, old enough to breed and in China they breed both young males and females under 1 year of age. also, this picture is photoshopped to make him more vivid red than he actually is. The Chinese color is red and I have several of their TM books (and you can look up Chinese TM websites where the PS'ing is so evident it is sad).

also, the Chinese claim this dog as *their* breed when in fact, it belongs to the Tibetans who are NOT Chinese, they are Tibetans who have been suppressed/oppressed by the Chinese since 1949. also, given the breeding practices in China, several breeds have been crossed in to achieve over wrinkling (like the Neopolitan Mastiff), Great Dane (for height) and the examples have hanging haws (eyelids) that are usually entropic or have distichiasis.

Yeah, I was pretty sure he wasn't REALLY that red! But why do you say he won't be able to perform when he hits puberty. Just curious.

I am aware of the horrible oppression the Tibetans have endured for many, many years under Chinese rule. Just read a very interesting article on the Dalai Lama.

Think about it, 11 months old. 180 lbs., (or supposedly). In China, especially when stud fees are through-the-roof, such as it will be for this one (purportedly to be upwards of $15,000.00), the Chinese always take a photo of the female tied to the male (the *tie*) as proof that that female was mated to that male. He is not real well structured first off, and secondly with that type of weight on a young frame, if he isn't already dysplastic (since the Chinese do NOT do hips or elbows over there), he will be HD. With large breeds of dogs, you keep that puppy as thin as you can and keep it in good health. Too much heavy weight on a baby/young frame, will give severe skeletal problems within a couple of years' time. The Chinese are going WAAAAAY overboard not only trying for something that is NOT what the breed was historically, but also in their photoshopping....its horrid!

I've been in this breed 31+ years, long before the TM became the *new bling dog* in China several years ago and its a disgrace to see what some of the breeders are doing to the breed. Its no longer a working breed, just something they tie to the end of a chain and taunt it til they get ferocious photographs which they think denote the quality of the dog. The stories they tell about a TM taking down a sole lion? Killing 10 wolves? Methinks they are creative storywriters!

Anyway, without actual DNA typing available for determining breeds behind the actual dog (and no, those companies that say they can tell you what breed is behind your mutt, is misleading), there is no way to determine if the Chinese are cross breeding!

and the examples have hanging haws (eyelids) that are usually entropic or have distichiasis.

Looked to me in that pic like his eyes have issues already, and I absolutely agree with you about the oversized issue... Lord knows its horrific in my breed, American pit bulls, who, having just survived 30 years as a "fad" breed are actually a "rare" breed though shelters are drowing in "pit bulls"... Top weight for a pit bull is 65 pounds, but due to the "bigger is better" folks that jump on just about every fad (remember "Dober-danes"?) they have crossed poorly bred Am Staffs and Dogue de Bourdeaux and everything else in until the younger generation thinks a "pit bull" is blue and 100 pounds, something a "real" pit bull is neither of!

The Chinese are horrible breeders, and typically view animals as "art" or, more accuratly, "bling" like you said. Same thing in Japan. Did you happen to read the book "The Last Dog Man" I think it was, about the guy in Japan that helped save the Akita breed during WWII? In all his years in dogs only one ever came into his house, and that was a show champion and it stayed in a special cage so he could sit and drink tea and LOOK AT IT. There was absolutely no emotional relationship there. Different cultures, different ways, just glad I was raised in a culture which can bond with animals.

I met Bartok at a show. I met one of his sons, I believe, a beautiful dog but he was terrified of my cane. He shied like a horse and almost pulled his handler out of the showgrounds when he saw me coming down the walkway toward him. A dog like that can flat MOVE a man when it wants to! I call myself the "Walking Temperament Test" because when I go to dog shows or shelters some few dogs will react to the cane. I had one GSD bite it!

Congrats on your litter... they are beautiful. It sounds like you are that rare and wonderful thing called a "reputable breeder" who health tests and titles their dogs. Good for you!

boldog, BEAUTIFUL pibbies, i love seeing REAL pit bulls...not thos ehippo looking beasts so highly sought after by horrible breeders and posers.

and sea, Stunning tibbies, your female is just gorgeous (i love black and tans!)
those are going to be some stunning puppies.

i 100% agree about the oversized stuff...
people dont realize that when you breed for size you tend to loose ability, these dogs are supposed to be able to WORK...at that wieght that pup will be lucky if it can even walk at maturity.
im assuming tibetain mastif are like danes, still immature and growing untill almost 3 yrs old.
