Tibetans v. Pharoah coturnix

I have four Tibetan hens and they are vicious little creatures. Get along great with each other, but will terrorize anything else. So very unlike the Dalai Lama! Even if I separate them and place one in with a group of Pharoahs, they will go on the attack against everyone.

The only other breed with my Tibetans is a Tuxedo who was raised with them. And she is just as evil as they are. I call them the Shrews or the Coven.

My Pharoahs have been much more docile and, while a few of them are territorial, they aren't what I'd consider vicious. Just demanding that they have their space.

My Tibetans came from a shady dealer on Craigslist, and my Pharoahs came from a more reputable even if somewhat inexperienced breeder, so I was thinking that perhaps that accounts for the attitudes. But then I was wondering if it was just the breed.

It could be the breeders. Some breeders breed for temperament while others breed for production, etc. I knew a breeder who bred his for aggression. Never bought a quail from that person again.

GF is right that some breeders breed for temperament. The breeder I got my jumbo browns from bred for temperament as well as size and I've been very pleased with my hens and roosters that I got from him. I've never had Tibetans before, but if their breeder was just breeding for color and not temperament too that could be your problem.

They're pretty docile with me. Just little witches with anyone "not their kind" lol

Well most quails are very territorial and aggressive to other quail who are not apart of their covey. When adding in new quail what I do is I take all the quail into a new pen that they are not used to. I put a divider in between the new ones and the old ones and after 2-3 days I remove it. After the new ones have been accepted into the covey I return them to the old pen.
