Hey all! I'm trying to find a chicken-friendly insecticide besides DE. (DE's annoying with the whole deactivated-with-water thing.

) Anyone know of anything? We have ticks EVERYWHERE, it's insane, and we're going crazy!

Thanks for any help!

Get a few Guinea hens, they're the best tick control out there! The last Nursery I worked at kept 12 or so, I never had any ticks on me and I was there daily! Good Luck!

Guineas...Guineas...Guineas

You can raise a few right along w/your chickens. Also the Guineas make good 'watchdogs' for your birds. If a hawk (or large bird) flies overhead, the Guineas sound alarm and the chickens head for cover.

The first year here, my doxie has 36 ticks crawling on her after spending 15 min in the trees chasing rabbits. I got guineas that fall. The next summer, she only got 2-3 ticks and last summer, i didnt see one single tick

Oh, I forgot to say besides guineas, too.

I hate guineas, they're evil!

Thanks for the tips, though!

where are the ticks?

In your chicken coop?

In woodland?

In the lawn?

You might want to remove brush piles or other habitats if they're hiding there.

I have guineas, who keep this place fairly bug-free. And I have bat habitats -- they take care of all the flying insects like mosquitoes.

i was going to tell you the same thing as everyone else. guineas! or more chickens of any kind. i have a few game chickens that are free range. they do great also. they are smart and fast to hid from hawks and other things and they are great at finding food for their self! hardy chickens

Are people having trouble with ticks biting your chickens? That makes no sense to me. I thought the chickens would eat and control the ticks.

One reason I am hatching my first chickens ever right now is to get rid of the ticks (the dogs are getting them alot lately).

And how noisy are guineas? I would love to have a couple to eat ticks in my yard as I read they are the best, but settled on chickens because the guineas were noiser.

I'm in a residential area.
