I think a big issue in Australia, but here, not so much. It was attached for 2 days, and paralysis usually occurs while the tick is attached. She was scratching around today but I'll keep the thread updated if something happens.It was a paralysis tick. For sure
Personally I think it was a deer tick based on the coloring and the way it looked, which is why I'm focusing on knocking off the mouse population. I put their water away and bury any scraps of food to prevent raccoons from coming over and dropping more ticks. They're outside from sunrise to sunset so no food is in the coop for the mice either, I don't think they'll get up in the middle of the night for a snack lol.
I made this thread because I was worried that it may have been a skin tight flea or something that would require a lengthy coop cleaning and treatment protocol. But since its a tick and it seems to be pretty isolated, I think I'm just going to clean the poop trays as normal, put some DE on the hens, and trap more mice. First time I've ever seen a parasite on my hens honestly. I check their legs too but I've never seen any signs of scaly leg mites
