Tick infestation around Coop and Run

We are building a new coop and run for our chickens near the tree line of our property and it is INFESTED with ticks, we are absolutely covered in them once we are done working out there and can't let the kids out there anymore. I've never seen ticks this bad in my life, we picked 30 poppy seed size ticks off of our daughter the other night. It's terrifying.

Is there anything safe we can spray to take care of the problem that won't hurt the chickens once they move in? They won't be moving in for a few more weeks.

I've read a Permethrin is safe to use with chickens - but what about in the litter of their run? We've already filled the run with leaves, grass, wood chipping to start the deep litter and am afraid the ticks are now in it as well.

Definitely dangerous!!!
Permethrin spray is safe and works well; get the concentrate and make up the solution as directed.
Wear protective clothing and insect repellent out there!
