Tick invasionof my run~ HELP!

pop, how did you contain or "teach" your guineas to stay home? how does that work? i would like to have guineas, but have heard they just wander off & are impossible to keep unless completely confined.

I have a friend who has guineas and is willing to give me some eggs to hatch (a long with an incubator to borrow). Do they hatch like chicks do? I have a totally fenced in yard, cow fence that is about 4-5 ft high. Would that be enough for them to stay put?
Also- I am really worried about the Sevin dust. Isn't it harmful?

They look like dog ticks to me. Though it my screen isn't that good and they could be deer ticks.

you do not need to have a dog to have dog ticks in the area. They will live on raccoons, skunks, coyotes, cats, possums, mice, deer, and other warm blooded animals. They prefer grassy areas over wooded areas.

I have issues with ticks around my area in Southern Ontario. We see city dogs with ticks even! At my home I have to check myself for ticks after even letting the dog out to pee! If I step on my grass, I risk getting a tick. When I go for a walk around the property I put on 100% DEET on my clothes and still wind up with at least one tick!

I have never thought they about them with the chickens....one more "predator" to watch out for UGH!

Guineas are wild birds. I raised mine from keets and didn't let them out until they were 3 months old. Adults probably need to be pened for 6. I brooded mine under my pole barn. Now they roost in the rafters there and are out of the weather and safe from owls, and even coons and fox, etc at night. Some folks just let a few out at a time and they stay close. guineas are quite social. Good luck with yours...........Pop
