TICKS, TICKS, Ticks, every where what can I do

I have tick very bad and guinea are not the answer at this time. I do plan on getting some guinea eggs and hatching them so that I can raise them myself. The ticks are so bad that when you walk around outside you spend more time picking tick off then getting to where you want to go. I need to know something that I can use right now that is safe after a day or so for my chickens to go back out. I only have three that are free ranges where the ticks are. I can pen them up for some time so something can work but again what can I use. I was thinking of using Sevin granules.

I have some land near my backyard that the owners are allowing to grow into a wilderness, I enjoy the wild bird and animals that are living there, but the ticks were driving me crazy.I finally went to Lowe's and got something to broadcast on the grass. I dont remember which one I used but I like the sevin products. I feel they are safer for animals. I think if you get the granulars out before a rain or water them in you can let the animals out when its completely dry. I usually wait a couple days after it gets watered in.

I was going to say guinea. We got some just for the bug control and so far so good. We usually have ticks and chiggers on us by now. The dogs don't even have any ticks. We have 5 acres of woods behind out house and they cover behind out house and the neighbors which would be about 4 houses in a city. They are constantly eating. Other than pesticides I don't know of any safe way to get rid of the ticks. To me the guinea are noisey and annoying but we put up with them because they're doing such a good job. The neighbor felt he had to put his dogs on a leash to take them out because they like to chase the guinea but they can fly away where their little weinnie dogs can't. I told him not to worry about it unless he just don't want them going out into the woods.

Can you let your chickens free range? They'll eat your ticks. We've noticed that we have alot less ticks when we have chickens.

Oh, I just re-read your post. You have 3 chickens that free range. Apparently they're not keeping up...

Last year we had alot of LF breed and they free ranged. We still had ticks as usual and chiggers too. We got guinea keets last year and kept them penned up for 4 months and now they roam as they will. They stay mostly in the woods and tall grass behind the house. They stay fairly close but they are constantly eating. My neighbor mentioned to me tonight he hasn't found any ticks on his dogs. We haven't either. The chickens tend to peck the ground more than reach up and ours didn't go foraging into the woods or tall grass either. They stay close to home.

My dad and stepmom had amazing results using Nematodes for the ticks. I priced it for our 4 acres and it would have been over 100.00. If I could have, I would have bought some though. They have dogs that don't need Frontline anymore because of the nematodes. (They eat tick and flea larvae.)

I have close to 30 acres with horses, cows and poultry. Had a bad tick problem even with chickens, after buying 25 ADULT guneas my tick problem quickly went away. They are noisy, loud and fun to watch. I have not regretted getting them once. I get over a dozen eggs in the summer every day. If i can find the NEST that is. we sell the eggs and hatch out keets every year. they are truly a great asset.

I ended up with 1 hen and 3 roos. Which of course 1 roo has claimed her as his but I know she is nesting someplace but can't find it. She was sitting in a couple places under a pile of liimbs, I saw her but no eggs. They are about a year old and the roo is breeding her.

I sure wish I could find her eggs. I do know he will stand guard while she is sitting under the pile of limbs so I try to watch to see if I can see him standing around and not see her. No luck yet.
