LOVE those good roo stories! I know lots of people have flocks w/o roos, but I personally think they add a wonderful dimension to the whole flock dynamic. I love my boys! They take good care of their girls.

We see so many "mean roo" posts (and I know there are some who ARE just plain mean) but I really think a lot of them are from folks (as I once was) who just don't understand how a roo thinks and how he tries to do his job. Bless those little roo hearts!

LOL thankfully, my coop has a door just like the back door to my house so I can even fit my big rear through it!!! Though the image of squeezing through a tiny door was quite funny!!! LOL

Yes, I feel quite thrilled to have one of the good roos and wouldn't take a million dollars for him. I spend a lot of time trying to convince my mom that her roo isn't awful just because he mates the hens...and he is ALMOST as good as my Hansel!!!

That's great that you have a nice roo! I just had to get rid of mine because he was too hard on the hens!

Looked up and we had a hawk too!

The girls ignored him though.

My roo was did something like that. Mine free range during the day, then they all go back into a coop at night. Well one night my Brahma Rooster wouldn't go in. He kept making weird noises, and running away when I would try get him in. I was afraid I would have to leave him out and loose him. Because he ran off, and I couldn't find him. I was so sad. Anything left out at my house gets munched by possums or coons before morning. I was about to go to bed, and I went to check the coop and see if he was sitting by the door waiting. And I look over, and he comes over the hill with two pullets following behind him. I was so shocked. He refused to go in until all the chickens were accounted for, and in safety. Sweet big guy. Then he just marched right in willing leading the two couple month old girls. I was so proud!

He always makes it his duty to see that all the girls go in before him now. Although he lets the other roosters fend for themselves. lol
