Out of curiosity, how long will one of your girls sit in a nesting box? Do they sit for a while before laying or run in and run out?

Every hen is different. Some get in there and get it done, others lounge all day, and still others are nervous, and will change boxes, and come and go, making lots of noise in between. So there's no one normal way.

I figure as much. So far, I have just one out of my six laying. It'll be interesting to see how the others act.

Generally they make a bigger ruckus during their first few months of laying and many calm down after that, especially during the second season and after. The most drama comes from the novices.

X2..... it's fun to observe and learn each one's quirks

Funny, the later that I have keeps pretty quiet about things. But like you said, each is different
